Privacy Policy for GShopLens Chrome Extension
Effective Date: October 7, 2024
Introduction
Welcome to GShopLens (“the Extension”), provided by Jeff Louella. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and disclose information when you use our Chrome Extension.
By installing and using GShopLens, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.
Information We Collect
GShopLens is designed to function with minimal data collection. The information handled by the extension includes:
- User-Provided API Keys: To enable communication with third-party AI services (such as OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google AI), you may provide your own API keys within the Extension's Options page.
- User Configuration Settings: We store your preferences, such as:
- Selected AI models or features
- Custom instructions or prompts for AI
- Visualization and analysis settings
- Shopping Data (Temporary): When you activate the extension on a Google Shopping page, the content script temporarily accesses product titles, prices, seller info, ratings, and other visible data for analysis. This data is processed for the immediate task and is not stored long-term by the extension itself.
- Bulk Analysis Lists (Temporary): If you use bulk analysis features, the list of products or keywords you provide is used for analysis and not stored after the operation is completed (unless kept in the UI by you).
We do NOT collect:
- Your personal browsing history (beyond the specific Google Shopping page being analyzed)
- Personally Identifiable Information (PII) like your name, email address, or IP address through the extension itself
- Credentials for your Google, OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google AI accounts (only the API keys you provide)
How We Use Your Information
The information handled by GShopLens is used solely for the following purposes:
- To Provide Core Functionality:
- API Keys: Used exclusively to authenticate requests sent directly from your browser to the third-party AI services you have selected and provided a key for. This is necessary to generate AI-powered insights and analysis.
- Configuration Settings: Used to customize the extension's behavior and tailor the prompts sent to AI services according to your preferences.
- Shopping Data: Analyzed locally within the extension to generate insights, summaries, and visualizations. Relevant data, along with your custom instructions and settings, may be sent as part of prompts to the selected AI services for analysis or summarization.
- Bulk Lists: Used to perform analysis for each product or keyword provided.
- To Store Preferences: User configuration settings and API keys are stored locally using chrome.storage.sync to allow your preferences to persist across browser sessions.
Data Storage and Security
- Local Storage: All user-provided API keys and configuration settings are stored locally on your computer using the chrome.storage.sync API provided by Google Chrome. This data is associated with your Chrome profile and syncs if you have Chrome sync enabled, but is not stored on our servers.
- Security: We rely on the security measures provided by the Google Chrome browser and its storage APIs. You are responsible for the security and confidentiality of your own API keys. We recommend generating keys with limited permissions and revoking them if compromised. The extension sends API keys directly to the respective service providers over HTTPS.
Data Sharing and Third Parties
We do not sell, trade, or rent your information to others. However, data is shared in the following specific ways as part of the extension's core functionality:
- AI Service Providers: When you initiate an analysis, relevant shopping data (e.g., product details, keywords), your custom instructions, and configuration settings may be sent to the third-party AI services (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google AI, etc.) that you have selected and provided API keys for. Your interaction with these services is governed by their respective privacy policies:
We do not control the data handling practices of these third parties. Please review their policies.
- Google Shopping: The extension analyzes data from Google Shopping pages you visit. Your interaction with Google Shopping is subject to Google's Privacy Policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy
Other than the direct API calls initiated by user action to the selected AI providers, no other data is shared with third parties.
User Rights and Choices
- Access and Modification: You can access, modify, or clear your stored API keys and configuration settings at any time via the extension's Options page.
- Deletion: Clearing the API key fields and saving removes them from storage. Uninstalling the extension will remove all data stored by it via chrome.storage.sync and chrome.storage.local.
Children's Privacy
GShopLens is not intended for use by children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children under 13.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and potentially updating the version number or noting changes within the extension. You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes. Changes are effective when they are posted on this page.
